Happy Summer to you all!
Hope you're havin' a great one! We've been busy with kids coming and going. It keeps things interesting, with not a lot of painting getting done. HOWEVER . . . I just got back from a Design, Color and Composition class with JoSonja and now I am ready to get going again. I am always humbled when reminded how much I don't know. And talk about tons of talent in one room! JoSonja is always so inspirational and so knowledgeable and so giving with all that she knows.

Let's see . . . what did I learn? Well, we learned about making and keeping a color journal of our favorite color combinations to give us inspiration. We learned about taking a photo of a subject and how to sketch it to turn it into our own. We talked about pricing, we discovered some folk artists that are wonderful inspiration, we found a couple of wonderful used bookstores in Eureka, California (lol), and we made some new friends from Australia. We developed a taste for the food at Hurricane Kate's, we ooohed and aaaahed over the wonderful Victorian houses and buildings in Eureka, and we took pictures of the redwoods and elk on the way home.

I cannot think of one negative thing about the trip (well, except for the entire day the hotel was without power - it's very dark in those stairwells!). This seminar reminded me once again about how important it is for us to get together with fellow painters and new teachers. There is a connection among painters that is unique. Everyone is always so caring and giving, with a passion for our form of art that cannot be compared.

With that said, I have to ask . . . have you started working on Christmas yet? I've been thinking about it! Maybe I'll get started next week.
Until the next time.
Have a great rest of the summer.
Hugs,
Mary Jo
