Painting, designing and teaching have been Mary Jo Gross' passions and therapy for the past 35 years. It is her hope that through her designs, she can share some of that passion and therapy with you.

News, News, News...

Looking out the window today, it's hard to believe it's May.  It's cold and rainy and dreary.  I'm thinking it's a perfect day for getting my new magazines out and making a list of what I want to paint for summertime fun.  The latest "Painting" and "Paint Works" both have great summer ideas.  If I get to painting them NOW, they'll be ready when summer DOES get here.  And . . . it's never too early to be thinking about Christmas.  You know it will be here before we know it!!

I hope there are lots and lots of you getting ready to go off to Peoria for this year's SDP convention.  I'm not going to make it this year, maybe next  year.  It's always so exciting to go to a convention.  Especially in this day and age when so many shops have closed.  Conventions are the one way to keep in touch with what's going on in our industry and to see what's new!!

You will see that I have 5 new packets that are on a tray.  This tray has inserts for painting on both sides.  So, there's the base tray and packets for 4 sides of an insert.  I had fun doing them.  Hope you have fun painting them.

Until next time,
Mary Jo

Tip:

One of my new students asked me the other day about the difference between glazing and a wash.  The main difference is in the amount of paint used.  Usually you want more paint with a wash, and usually the paint is thinned with water.  Then applied to an entire area.  Such as the inside of windows, or over the entire apple, etc.  A glaze is usually applied with glazing medium and a very, very sheer tint of color.  Can be applied to one spot and faded out, such as glazing different colors on to fall leaves or various colors on to a bunch of grapes.
